Is There Anything Wrong With Being An Atheist?

Answer Question

15 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Atheists are accused of being immoral because they have no god to punish them if they do not do right by their fellow man. This is wrong as when atheists do good they do it only out of love for their fellow man and not to escape punishment or to get some sort of heavenly reward.

I am a Christian and do not push my religion on anyone... You have the right to choose, so believe what you want.

Absolutely not. In fact I'm proud of it. It was only after years of searching that I put religion aside. After much much thought and theorizing, to me atheism makes the most sense. However, I don't claim that there is definitely not a god. Like most atheists, I've just come to realize he/she/it has not revealed itself in any way that makes sense to those of us who question more deeply than most. If he/she/it exists however, then I am confident that he/she/it would not hold my intelligence against me since he/she/it knows how utterly ridiculous it is to possess reason AND faith at the same time. The two do not mix...period.

I personally dont think so.. We have our own abilities to judge, decide and give opinions.. We cant force someone to believe in something.. I believe in one god.. But i respect atheist as well.. We all are different.. Thats how amazing life is..

Many people attach their love of life, beauty, desire to do good, value of existence, to their notion of a God. Therefore when you take that away, in their mind, you lose all those qualities.

This of course is nonsense. We are not sad and lonely (Dani8675), we experience the same pinnacles of emotion and fulfilment that believers do - we just derive them from a different source i.e. Not a supernatural being.

What is sad is how easy it seems to be for believers to casually de-humanise atheists.

As an atheist, I do not find anything wrong with renouncing one's faith in a deity. In fact, I find it refreshing and enlightening.

Is there anything wrong with being religious? No, not really. As long as you're a good, moral and ethical person, that's all that matters.

If I told you that it was none of my business, then I would be disobedient to God. He has petitioned  Christians to tell others about Him. The answer is yes it is wrong.  God gave us His commandments and the first is to love God.  He created us to have a relationship with Him.  People try to make it so complicated.  It isn't.  God gave His son Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice so that we could have eternal life.  When we confess our sins to Him He does forgive us.  He has promised us that in 1st John 1:9.  This promise is for EVERYONE.  I have lived life as my own God and I have lived life for God.  I can tell you that the latter is far more rewarding and fulfilling.  I also have hope of Heaven and eternal life there as a result.  Is it always easy?  No.  It is a daily effort.  But with God's help, it is possible.  He is there for you always to help.  It is a comfort to know that He will help us through anything.  I hope this helps.

No, if you do not wish to have your soul redeemed that is your business. You have every right to believe what you wish and I have the same rights.

Yes.  You are grieving the heart of Jesus who gave His life for you.  You are denying yourself the most wonderful gift you could possibly ever have.  The life of salvation from sin is so very liberating.  You need not have to be a slave of sin.  It's is unbelievable what a wonderful sense of peace you can have when you give your life to Him.  It's so very wonderful to know you never have to face any situation alone.  I hope this helps you to rethink your beliefs.  God understands our confusion and is ready to help.  He loves you and is waiting for you with open arms.  He will not push you.  He loves you that much that He lets you make the choice.  Regardless, He still loves you and always will.  However, you choose your eternal destiny.  It's up to you.

Honestly only one thing in my belief is that you will not enter heaven unless you accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour....other than that by what you believe you are misleading others into thinking that this is okay for them also.....other than that it will be between you and your maker what is considered wrong with it...since you don't believe in any god by definition of atheist you will have to discuss it with Him...i hope you don't wait because it will be a very short discussion  if it is at the judgment seat....and there is no Jesus to take your place/judgement/under the blood sacrifice by Him.......this is so you can not say no one told you about it when you asked...later : ) hope this helped John chapter 3 verse 16

The problem with atheism is that you cut yourself off from the rest of the world, and there is without a doubt a spiritual side of the world. It might not be huge, and maybe it's all in our own heads, but being an atheist doesn't magically give you power over your own head, you're still just the same as everyone else- albeit, with the somewhat difficult task of ignoring anything you don't understand or trying to physically categorize things that aren't physical.

so, three parts- you have no 'glue', as religion functions as a social glue- where are the atheist cathedrals, for example?- and you have no spiritual point of reference when dealing with any religious person or group.  Buddhists, for example, find this laughable and have kind the same attitude towards atheists as most evolutionists have of creationist teachers- the attitude of "I wonder what they'll be saying when natural selection happens to them".  Last but not least, Atheists are remarkably good at ignoring things they don't like.  Maybe this is just human, but I see more examples of this from atheists than any other group.  If you guys don't understand it, or if it makes sense in a spiritual way but not in a physical way, I've never seen an atheist (with one exception) embrace it.

            post script

by "atheist cathedrals" I'm talking about massive undertakings utilizing large ammounts of teamwork without a system of exchange keeping everybody in place. The pyramids of egypt, for example, fall under this category, as do the cathedrals of europe and the mosques of the middle east, or the temples all around SE asia and the giant buddha statues currently being demolished in afghanistan. These were all built because of faith, not because of money, and it was a religious heirarchy that brought the people together, not a monetary one.

What would be the point of anything  if there was  no God? That is no way to live. Sounds very sad and  lonely to me.
