Where Can I Find Free Plans For A Mallard Duck House/Nest?

Answer Question

You didn't mention whether you have a body of water for your ducks. We have a 1/3 acre pond adjoining a wooded area. After noticing a pair of Mallards investigating the pond, I decided to build a floating house for the ducks to help keep them away from predators. The female too to it immediately and began laying eggs.

I simply used 1 1/2" rigid styrofoam (available at Home Depot, Lowes, etc). It is sturdy enough and provides plenty of flotation. Mine was built too small for the duck to be able to turn her eggs daily as required so hatching rate has been about 20%. I'm building a larger one for next year and will see how it goes.

Get two 4'X8' sheets of foam. Cut one piece approx. (score with utility knife and snap) 2 1/2" wide X 4'. This will be the bottom. I attached an inexpensive VENTED laundry basket right side up to the bottom of it with plastic tie wraps. This provides ballast and a place for small fish to hide out.
