The movie Munich (2005) is a critically-acclaimed film directed by Hollywood legend Steven Spielberg. It was released on December 23 last year and distributed by Universal Pictures and DreamWorks SKG Pictures (in which Spielberg himself is one of the co-founders, in partnership with Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen). It is the screen adaptation of the massacre that took place in Munich during the Olympic Games, which were held in the German city in 1972. The victims were eleven Israeli athletes and the controversial operation was nicknamed 'Operation Wrath of God'.
The perpetrators of the horrific incident were members of the Mossad squad. The film was nominated in five categories–best picture, best director, best screenplay, best editing and best original score–at the 78th Oscar awards ceremony held earlier this year, but it did not win a single Academy award.
The movie is a multi-starrer, and the cast includes actors such as Eric Bana, Daniel Craig (the new James Bond) and Geoffrey Rush, among others.
