    Sellapan Ramanathan was the President of Singapore who was re-elected in the year 2005.  His term was extended on 17th August, 2005 on virtue of walkover. Ramanathan's first term had expired on 31st August, 2005. The second term comes to an end in 2011. It was on 12th July 2005 that an announcement about seeking re-election as President was made by him. An eligibility certificate was submitted by Ramanathan to the Presidential Elections Committee. The number increased with three people submitting forms by 6th August, 2005. However these applications were rejected. This announcement was made by the Committee on 13th August. Since there was no opposition from other candidate, Ramanathan was sworn in on 1st September 2005 for second term on office.
