What Is The Difference Between Horse Racing Cards And Horse Racing Results?

I've heard horse racing cards being mentioned on horse racing websites and blogs and always thought they were summaries of the results. Is that the case?

Horse Racing Cards, also referred to as Racing Cards, are traditionally printed cards given away in newspapers which offer information for a particular horse racing event or race.

These days though you will also find race cards being offered by many horse racing websites.

The information on the cards usually covers a few key topics such as:

    • -> The schedule for the races
-> A list of the runners (horses) competing
-> Information on the "Going", which refers to the weather conditions
-> Information on statistics - usually covering the race distances but can include any number of other statistics such as the favourites for each race, details on jockeys and trainers and more.

Depending on the source race cards can offer a varying amount of information and you'll find that with a lot of online sources they typically encompass a lot more details than are possible in the print form and often include betting information as well since a large portion of horse racing fans also bet on the races.

That being said the goal remains the same; to offer the viewer a card which features all the pertinent information for a horse racing event or race.

Here's a good example for horse racing cards. The Racing Post newspaper, a UK racing paper does print cards as well as these online race cards.

In contrast horse racing results are of course exactly what their name implies, the results for a race. Again newspapers provide those in print but in the digital age live results are of course displayed on websites as they come in.

For the sake of an example see the Racing Post horse racing results page which is of course by far not the only source for these but perhaps one of the authority sources in the UK as it provides that data to a lot of mainstream news conglomerates. I'm unsure what the equivalent would be for the US market.

    Hope that answers your question.

Horse racing cards show the all the horses and odds being offered at the time.  The horse racing results show the winners in order and the actual winning odds.
