    Is The Ground Wire Needed For Changing A Light Fixture?

    I was changing a light fixture in my home and I noticed on the old fixture, the ground wire was cut- off and wasn't in use. Is it necessary to have the ground wire?

    You can usually get away without it but if you want your home to comply with the electrical code and for the sake of safety I would recommend reconnecting the ground. It will reduce the likelihood of fire.
