    I went to www.wikipedia.com and found them there. 1/2 way through through the cultivation and uses paragraph it mentions that they are best pruned on an annual basis when the new leaf buds begin to appear. If not pruned regularly, the bush will become very "leggy", growing upwards until the weight of the stems is greater than their strength.
    I think really you might want to call a nursery and talk to them. They have a great wealth of info as this is what they do. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, good luck.
