How To Give Insulin Injection To Cat?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

I have a diabetic cat, so I know giving insulin can be a bit tricky with some cats. Best way I have given insulin to my cat is the way the vet showed me. Pull up a bit of skin to make a small "tent", have your insulin syrynge ready with the proper dose in the other hand, facing the needle down. Poke needle quickly into the skin, making sure you have not stuck the needle into the muscle or through the other side of the skin. If you have poked out the other side, then pull the needle out and try again. Once you have the needle poked under the skin, inject the insulin and pull the needle out. I have found that my cat doesn't even seem to notice her injections if I feed her at the same time.

My vet told me to wait 20-30 minutes after the cat eats to give the injections. I would rather do it when he was eating if that is OK.
