What Was The Purpose Of The Recent Nationwide Strike In Pakistan?

The latest nationwide strike that was observed in Pakistan was in the aftermath of the bloodshed and violence that rattled the city of Karachi few days ago.  All major cities including the capital city of Islamabad observed the strike and nearly all businesses and other quotidian activities were at an ephemeral surcease on the day of the strike.  However many rallies were seen protesting in various cities of Pakistan, which consisted of laywers, non-governmental organizations and the public.  They were constantly chanting slogans against the government for being responsible for the Karachi killings and demanded murder charges to be placed on the government, specifically President General Pervez Musharraf and the head of the violence executor party Altaf Hussain, who is the chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.  The entire nation joined hands in objurgating to the violent mayhem in Karachi and demanded for the culprits to be punished.
