Bumpkins does not mean anything in particular but is generally referred to a group of people in England who are known as Yokels. They are people who wear the typical outfit of Old West Country. This farmhand's outfit is usually made up of straw hat, baggy trousers and white smock, and a typical persona of chewing a part of straw and carrying a pitchfork or rake. Some of the other people considered as Yokels are people who come from the land of Britain such as Yorkshire or Norfolk. English yokels talk a country language from some part of England.
Some sources claim that this word has been derived from the mispronunciation of the utterance 'local', from a vernacular word 'yokel', which means 'woodpecker' or from the Somerset sound 'yogel' meaning 'owl'.
