How Is Plastic Made?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Plastic, naturally are made out of polymers. However, not all natural polymers can be called plastic. Polymer is made up of many molecules and has a large molecular mass and each molecule in the mass is called a polymer molecule. When plastic is made out of polymer, it is relatively stiff as the molecules of polymer are joined together.

Other ingredients that go into the making of plastic are plasticizers, fillers, flow improves, colour pigments for colour and stabilizers. The molecules in polymers are chemically bond together, very close to each other, to form plastic. To change the form of plastic, to make numerous types of goods, there are a number of processes that a manufacturer can use. One of the common methods is called "thermomolding". In this process, stiff plastic is treated with pressure and heat to make thin sheets out of it.
