Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in a small cottage in the Kentucky state. His cottage was surrounded by forests beasts and birds. He could do all sorts of useful work such as to fetch water from a long distance, to cut timber with small axe and collect sticks for fire.
Thomas Lincoln, Lincoln's father liked nomadic life. He used to shift his home from place to place. Though Thomas Lincoln was uneducated he was a noble fellow. He brought great books for his son pilgrim's progress, Asop's Fables, Robinson Crusoe. These books opened a new world for Abraham. When he was eight, his father taught him shooting.

The farm in Kentucky was not giving much profit. So they moved to the Indians State. Lincoln's step mother was a kind and wise woman. She put all the children to school and made the house comfortable. Lincoln proved himself a very good student.When Abe grew young he followed different professions. He e worked as a carpenter' a postmaster' a surveyor and as a boatman. He toured the province of Orleans and was greatly distressed to see slavery there.

He was popular with the people. At the age of 25, they elected him the member of the Illinois Legislature. He studied law in 1861; he was elected the president of America. He hated slavery so he abolished it. At this the southern states rebelled against him. They elected Jofferson Davis as their president. A civil war broke out. It lasted from 1861 to 1865; Lincoln was shot dead by a mad man in a Washington theater.

Lincoln was a great man. He believed in the liberty equality and fraternity of man. He was a great orator and inspiring leader. He had a good sense of humor. For these qualities he is respected all over the world.
