Where Can I Find The Legal Term For "Serve As An Attachment?"

Answer Question

"Serve as an attachment" means "to bring to notice or execute in a manner deemed by law." It is the term given to serve a witness with a subpoena. "Serve as an attachment" is also the same thing as "writ of an attachment."

A writ of an attachment is a written order issued by a court, authorizing and instructing a law enforcing officer to attach specified properties of entity or persons against whom the writ was given.  Through court order, a writ of attachment enforces obedience to another judgment or court order.

Initially, it was used to make the legal authority take a disobedient person to court for the contempt. Presently, a writ of an attachment or "to serve as an attachment" means "to seize the defendant's property, rather than the defendant's person to ensure the satisfaction of a judgment that has not yet been secured."
