    The Juniper tree and its berries are used in many ways, one is to flavor gin, so you will see juniper berries on the label. At one time, they were also used in the making of beer, but has been replaced by hops. Juniper berries are often served cooked with meats.
    The berries are aromatic and are actually the seed pods. They are purply blue in color. The leaves can be slightly poisonous and can cause irritation.
    The tree can reach anywhere form 20m to 40m tall and can be columnar or low spreading. They are evergreen conifers and are part of the cypress family.
    There are 50 to 67 different species of Juniperus, its botanical
    name, which range from northern Europe to Africa.
