    Basant also known as 'Jashn-i-Baharan' is a festival celebrated each year at the end of winters in order to welcome spring. It is basically a Hindu  celebration carried out as soon as spring arrives in order to pay respect to their Goddess Saraswati(the goddess of wisdom, intelligence and knowledge of all form of arts and science including music and dancing).
    The color yellow is associated with Basant as it is the color of mustard that flourishes in spring. On basant the sky is filled with colorful kites, people where bright clothes and the sky is filled with the melodious sound of songs and happy people.
    Today Basant is known to be the most colorful and most celebrated festival throughout India and has its peak in the provine of Punjab. Basant as we know it today is not only confined to India or Hindus alone it is widely celebrated in the city of Lahore in Pakistan aswell as other cities. Basant has now spread all over the South Asia including Afghanistan.
