A 30-day Flea Medicine Isn't Working For My Cat , Still Has Them After Only 1 Week. Can I Wash Her W/ Flea Shampoo?

My cat is 13 & 1/2 yrs. Old and is suffering terribly from fleas. Nothing seems to help. She has always been an indoor cat--spayed & declawed in front paws; though, sometimes goes outside in the back yard, to the "bathroom" (within the past few months only). Last week, she stayed out all night/day for about 5 days in a row, only coming in a few times to eat & drink. I got her in on the 5th day to administer some flea medication and to keep her in the house. She is listless and still itching. What to do?

I think you need to take her to the vet, as she is getting up there in years, have him help you out with this. If she is listless, she might be getting sick from the medicine, and you don't want that, I know. So, get her checked out. Hope this helps, good luck.

You should wash her in about another week but what kind of flea medicine. Did you give her?

It could be that the fleas have developed an immunity to the flea poison, read the ingredients and buy a different one with different ingredients.

It depends on what you would use to get rid of the fleas. I used an organic solution on the 2.5 week old kitten I found behind my school. The brand name was Cloud Nine. It used tree oils. They recommend mixing their flea killer in their organic shampoo but their shampoo had an age limit (concerning baby animals) so I just mixed the flea killer with water.
