Christmas doesn't have to be all about large family parties. Two people can have a complete, scaled-down version of the traditional meal if that's what you fancy. An easy way to do this is to buy a turkey breast joint –or even a small 9lb turkey if you are real turkey fans and can face all the leftovers. But there is plenty of meat on a breast joint, and you can have everything with it –stuffing baked in a dish, roast potatoes, bread sauce, the lot. Alternatively, a roast duck makes a lovely festive meal for two. As the meat is rich, you probably wouldn't want so many rich accompaniments but might go for a sharp or sweetish sauce like orange or plum. (Both are available ready-made if you like.) Or why not go for chicken, cooked in a special way – coq au vin, say, or roast chicken with a cream cheese stuffing? A really nice fillet steak is also a special Christmas exravagance. To follow, there really are no limits –miniature Christmas pudding or whatever else you feel like.
