What Happened When A Cement Truck Ran Into A School In East Yorkshire On November 7 2006?

At nine o'clock, just five minutes after pupils had gone into East Cowick Primary School, near Snaith in East Yorkshire, a cement truck veered out of control and hit several cars parked outside the school. These belonged to parents who had just dropped off their children. No-one was in these cars and none of the children were hurt but the truck went on to plough through the school gates, colliding with a car just leaving.

This car was crushed under the front wheels of the truck leaving the woman driver badly injured. The truck came to rest in the school playground. Emergency services were quickly on the scene and the woman was cut free from the wreckage and air lifted to Doncaster hospital. She was dead on arrival at the Doncaster Infirmary.

None of the pupils or parents were injured and the school was kept open with lessons carrying on as normal, although the road outside was closed in both directions for several hours.
