You can buy magnesium fire starters from camping supply stores or some sporting good stores. They measure about 1/2 inch by 1 inch by 5 inches. Using one of these worked well for me. I also had to use a low volt bulb (1.2) and place the 2 electrodes relatively close together.

P.S. A magnesium electrode can be found in the camping section at Walmart. It's on a key chain and is used for starting camp fires. It worked great for us.

I used aluminum as the sacrificial electrode, and stainless steel as the air electrode.table salt for the electrolyte.good project for green friendly for the wast products are non-toxic and easily delivered back into the ocean safely.

You can purchase magnesium fire starters from camping supply stores (REI, Fontana) or some sporting good stores.  The fire starter consist of a small block of magnesium (about 1 inch by 5 inches by 1/2 inch).  I got it to work pretty well in this experiment, but only with a low volt (1.2) bulb and by putting the 2 electrodes in close proximity.
