7 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The average distance between Mars and Sun is estimated to be 141,500,000 miles. Just like planet Earth, Mars also orbits the sun; hence the distance between Sun and Mars keeps differing. The orbit of Mars is elliptical and so its distance from the Sun differs from 206.7 million kilometres to 249.2 million kilometres.

Its standard distance from the sun is estimated to be 227.7 million kilometres. Mars also known as the Red planet basically is the fourth planet from the sun. This planet gets its name after the Roman god of war "Mars". Mars comprises of two moons known as Phobos and Deimos which are abnormally shaped.

Mars is said to have only half the radius and one-tenth the mass of planet earth. On the basis of orbital observation it was determined that the surface of Mars comprises mainly of basalt.
