Where Is La Linea In Spain?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

La Linea is the border town in the most southern part of Spain. It borders with the British colony of Gibraltar and its name translates literally as "the line". La Linea is part of Andalusia and so the language spoken is Spanish, but also the Andalusian dialect. The accent is very strong in this part of Spain, with many "th" sounds used. There is also a typical shortening of words and the endings are often missed of so the verb structure can be difficult to learn.

The currency used in La Linea is the euro. Many visitors make the mistake of trying to use sterling notes that can be used across the border in Gibraltar. The town still suffers from a bad reputation; it is only within the last 20 years that developments have really taken place in La Linea with the government investing money in living conditions and health. This is directly related to the previous bad relations with the colony of Gibraltar which the Spanish would like returned to their ownership.
