What Shots Do Newborn Pit Bulls Need?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

You cannot give ANY shots or vaccinations to newborn puppies, since it will kill them!  Puppies that are still nursing will get their immunity through their mother, either through her milk or through the placenta before they were even born.  Some breeders start to give puppies their first series of vaccinations against Canine Distemper, Kennel Cough and Parvo when the puppies are six weeks old, especially if the female weans them early, but now standard protocol recommends waiting until puppies are 8 weeks old before starting vaccinations, unless there is a known outbreak of a disease like Parvo in the area.  Up to 8 weeks, the maternal antibodies that the pups got from their mother will most likely simply destroy any vaccine in their bloodstream, rendering it useless.
