What Color Candle Burns Faster?

Answer Question

8 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The speed at which a candle burns is not determined by its colour, but by its composition. It is a common myth that the wick is what burns when the candle is lit. Rather, the wax surrounding the wick is burnt. Whereas a string would normally burn away quickly, it doesn't because of the wax surrounding it. The fire burns the wax instead. The heat turns the solid wax into a liquid, which travels up the wick. The scientific term for this process is 'capillary action'.

The three main types of candles are paraffin, beeswax and soy. The latter two are touted for being more natural and environmentally friendly. There are many variables that affect the burning time: the quality of the wick, the composition of the candle, as well as the size of the candle. Many candle producers note on the packaging how long the candles take to burn and indeed compete in order to give you the most burning time.

I'm conducting a exiperment on candles, and my results were that the white candle burned the faster. It really doesn't matter the color just the texture and how think the candle is. We use colored, white, scented and unscented candles. It was a pretty good projetc for the time being. Out of the scente and unscented candles the scented candle burn faster than the unscented one did.The kind we used were: Ginger, pumpkin, and lavender.
With The Pumpkin burning ther fastest, then the ginger and finally the lavender. It was a very fun exiperment but supervision is highy needed. =]

Well i did a science fair project 4 school and my question was, does the scent of a candle depend on how fast it burns? I did a strawberry, vanilla, and a pineapple scented candle and the pineapple;e candle burned the fastest and the vanilla candle burned the slowest!!!
