What Kind Of Tests Can Be Run To Find Out About Distemper In Puppies?

In puppies with acute distemper infection, diagnosis can often be based on the typical systemic and neurological signs. There are several different tests aimed at detecting distemper virus antigen... But unless they've come up with new tests recently that I'm not aware of, most tests are time consuming and results can be inconclusive and difficult to interpret especially in puppies, because many puppies do not develop serum antibodies which is what the tests are looking for.  

You recognize it by a couple of signs. First, yellowish-green or dark green discharge from the eyes and nose is a classic symptom. It's often accompanied by sneezing and general lethargy (like a human with a bad cold).... Any greenish discharge from the eyes or nose means distemper is a real possibility... If you haven't yet consulted a vet, RUSH your pup to the vet at the first sign of infection!   In most distemper cases, the only chance your puppy has is early detection and aggressive medical therapy... Another key sign is constant shaking or twitching... But this happens in the more advanced stages of the disease, and at this point recovery is doubtful.
