    Scotland Yard is a well known term to those who are interested in detective novels, stories and cinemas. The term definitely fantasized with a very efficient, uniformed or plain-clothed policeman participating in the ceaseless war against crime. Scotland Yard is the head quarters of the metropolitan police force, Great Britain. The Metropolitan police force is responsible for an area of about 787 square miles and a population of about 6750000 living in the greater London area which consist 27000 officers. Scotland Yard performs many services besides supplying policemen and detectives. It is also in charge of London's traffic, its licenses, controls taxis and their drivers as well as buses. It is also involved in civil defence, buildings, lost property etc. Scotland Yard maintains criminal records for the entire country, but helps others or provincial police forces by request. The old building of Scotland Yard was a property of king Kenneth of Scotland and with the time it came to be known to the people of London as "Scotland". After dying of Queen Elizabeth in 1603 the yard divided into two parts "Great Scotland Yard" and "Middle Scotland Yard". Still Scotland Yard is one the most respected detective organization all over the world.
