My mother cat came into heat when her kitten where around nine weeks old,and she was still nursing her.

Yes, your cat can become pregnant while nursing. Keep male cats away from her while she is nursing. Kittens should be weaned at 6-8 weeks of age. Several weeks after weaning she can be spayed if you would like to prevent further litters.
