If You Have Your Gas Shut Off Do They Take This?

If you have the natural gas shut off to your home does the gas company just shut off a valve or do they remove the meter and plug off the lines? The reason I am asking is the meter is gone and the lines are just hanging there open....I guess what I really want to know is even if they shut it off under ground shouldn't they plug the end of the lines to prevent any leaks?

The gas company should be responsible to shut off the meter properly with the line end as to prevent any sort of leakages, if they didn’t do it then do  contact with their company as to avoid any mishap, do ask them what actually has to happen. Lines should never be left open even if the valve is closed at their own end.

Yes they should have plugged the end of the lines in. If they didn't, you should complain and get that rectified.
