What Information Does A Death Certificate After 1969 Contain?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A death certificate for a death registered in England and Wales after 1969 contains information extra to that given on a death certificate dating between 1837 and 1969.

It gives the birth date of the deceased, not just their age, so can be much more helpful in giving clues for searching for the birth of your ancestor.

The post 1969 certificate often gives more details about the cause of death and gives the name and address of the closest relative, usually the deceased person's spouse.

The indexes for death certificates also contain the birth date of the deceased, so it is possible to glean this information just by a search of the index rather than going to the expense of purchasing the actual certificate.

Today, at the time of writing, death certificates, like birth and marriage certificates cost a fee of £7.00 when true and official copies are ordered from the General Registration Office.
