The change in the state of a solid into gas state without passing through the liquid phase is known as sublimation. This process does not occur in all the solid elements but there are few elements which show this characteristic. This process takes place when the temperature and pressure go below triple point which is known as endothermic phase transition. For example, dry ice or a block of solid CO2 at STP shows sublimation. Moreover, the elements who show this phenomenon are known as sublime solids.
