The terminology of HTTP is divided into several parts which are as under
First-hand. An answer is first-hand if it comes directly and devoid of unnecessary setback from the source server, maybe via one or more proxies. A reply is also first-hand if its strength has just been checked in a straight line with the origin server.

Explicit expiration time .The time at which the source server intends that an entity should no longer be returned by a cache devoid of additional justification.
Heuristic expiration time. An ending time assigned by a cache when no unambiguous finishing time is obtainable is heuristic.

Age .The age of a reply is the time since it was sent by, or productively validated with, the source server. Freshness lifetime .The distance end to end of time between the production of a response and its ending time is called freshness of lifetime.

Fresh. An answer is fresh if its period has not until now exceeded its freshness lifetime.
Stale .A reply is stale if its period has approved its freshness lifetime. Validate .A procedure element (e.g., an entity tag or a Last-Modified time) that is used to discover out whether a cache entry is a corresponding copy of an individual is called validate.
