The adapters/network cards are difficult to install because a lot of parameters must be set carefully otherwise they will not work well. If their installation is not correct the entire system will show malfunctioning. The addresses of these cards must be set correctly. If there are cards with duplicate addresses. It will create conflict over the network.
Besides these the adapters must be compatible with the other resources on the computer like IRQ (interrupt request), input/output addresses, shared memory addresses and direct memory access etc.

These cards must be set at the unique interrupt request value with respect to the other resources of the system. The input/output addresses are those that a device uses to communicate with other devices. After setting the network cards at a unique interrupt request value, the input/output addresses must be set. These input/output addresses must also be as unique. Direct memory access is a technique that enables the devices to access the main memory with out interrupting the central processing unit. In order to use DMA, you must set the DMA channel for the adapter that is free (not in the use of any other device).
