What Does Quarter Master Mean?

    Quarter master is basically a term that is applied for a military man or even a unit. This term is applied to those who generally specialize in providing or supplying to troops. It is also applied sometimes to a helmsman at sea. This term came into existence when it was coined as Quartiermeister in Germany. This term was denoted to a court bureaucrat who performed the duty of taking complete care of the crowned heads sleeping quarters. Somewhere down in the 17th century it was applied to numerous militaries who organized supplies and goods.

    In the British army this term was better known as QM and was applied to an officer who in the contingent or even in a particular division and was basically responsible for the supply.
