Bolu is a province in north western Turkey, around the ancient city of Bolu. The highway from Istanbul to Ankara passes through Bolu after climbing Bolu Mountain, the major topographical obstacle. Yedigöller National Park (Seven Lakes) is located in Bolu province. Abant Gölü is another very attractive mountain lake. Kartalkaya skiing resort is in Bolu. Düzce Province was formely part of Bolu Province.

It is midpoint between the large cities of Istanbul and Ankara. It covers an area of 7,410 km², and the population is 263,619.

Bolu has a large passing trade: Bolu Mountain is the major topographical obstacle on the Istanbul-Ankara highway, and until 2007, when the Bolu Mountain Tunnel is being opened, most travellers stop here for food and refreshment
