Which Monkeys Live In The Jau National Park In Brazil?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Jau National Park, which is the Amazonas State in Brazil, contains several species of moneky, including the black headed uakara, the common squirrel monkey, the widow monkey, the white fronted and black capped capuchin monkeys, the dourourcoulis, the saki, the tamarind and the red howler.

Howler monkeys live in the park in groups of about 20 individuals. The groups are distinct but they do keep in contact with other groups and avoid conflicts over space by howling loudly and constantly. Their shouts are among the loudest noises made by any animal and are produced by a special resonating chamber in the howler monkey throat.

The vast area of the park, which contains low lying forest and areas of table land, deep valleys and rivers provides the perfect habitat for many monkeys and they are thriving in the 22 720 square kilometres of the reserve.
