Where Is Es Mercadal?

The Norther Minorca Island holds this large municipality of Es Mercadal. Minorca, one of the Spanish Balearic Islands is found in the western Mediterranean Sea. To the west of this island lies the Iberian Peninsula. The Balearic Islands form the Autonomous Community of Balearic Islands which is among the Autonomous Communities of Spain.

At the heart of Minorca Island, the municipality of Es Mercadal holds the Sanctuary of the Toro Virgin. The people of the island regard this as the island's spiritual centre. The highest point of Mercadal is the Toro Mountain. This is 357 metres in height. Various groups from island of Menorca assemble here at the sanctuary for prayer and meditation and its administration is run by a community, Franciscans of Pity.

Near Es Mercadal is the Tower of Fornells. It is a huge tower and was built for defense purpose. During 1801 to 1802, it protected the Port of Fornells from foreign intrusion, when it was under English people.
