Tear Down This Wall were the most famous words of the speech which was delivered by the then president of the United States of America, Ronald Reagan at the Brandenburg Gate in the city of Berlin (which is the capital of Germany) on June 12, 1987.
Reagan said these words to challenge the then leader of the erstwhile Soviet Union (which has now been renamed as Russia), Mikhail Gorbachev, to destroy the Berlin Wall. The wall divided Germany into two countries, namely West Germany and East Germany.
The speech was a result of Reagan's decision to tear down the Berlin Wall as a symbol of his desire to increase freedom in the Soviet bloc. The United States of America considered East Germany to be a puppet state of the erstwhile Soviet Union, and knew that the East German government would not accept Reagan's challenge to bring down the Berlin Wall even though it was the responsibility of the government of East Germany.
