What Are String Beans?

String Beans are also known as Green Beans.

These are generally unripe fruits of any beans. Some of the beans include the yardlong bean, the hyacinth bean, the pea, the winged bean and also the common bean. Phaseolus vulgaris, which is the scientific name for the common bean has pods, which are generally known as string beans and snap beans. Small string beans have the French name Haricots Verts. String beans are usually canned, frozen and fresh. The green bean casserole is the most popular thanksgiving bean dish.

The yardlong bean is also commonly called the long-podded cowpea, asparagus bean, snake bean, or Chinese long bean. It is known as dau gok in Cantonese, thua fak yao in Thai and kacang panjang in Malay.
