Will Gopher's Eat The Roots Off A Sweet Pea Flower? I Love This Blurtit Site!

Answer Question

Sweet peas are not usually targeted by garden pests like gophers, moles and rabbits. If you want to be safe, however, you might plant your sweetpeas in a large pot. The plant has vines and loves to climb. You can make a frame by arranging bamboo sticks as if you were building a teepee. Tie them at the top. After the sweetpeas have begun to sprout, you can gently place the bamboo frame either sitting inside or surrounding the pot. As the sweetpeas grow, lace the tendrils around the bamboo sticks. Soon the sweetpeas should cover the frame.

Sweetpeas shouldn't be put outside until it is around 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Depending on the climate, you may want to start them indoors in peat pots until it is warm enough to put them outside. Soaking the seeds in water for several hours before planting will soften the seed shells and aid germination.
