What Does Ember Mean?

    Ember is a noun that refers to a piece of wood or coal that is still glowing after the fire that it belonged to has nearly died out. Besides the coal it also refers to the ash that remains at the end of a dying fire.

    Ember is derived from the Middle English word "ember" which has taken the word from the Old English.

    Ember can be used as a metaphor as well, for instance, "After the great war, once again the people of Europe rose up from the embers and rebuilt their lives.

    Ember is also a common name given to girls and in its usage as a name it means a "spark" or something "burning low". This is also derived from the Old English.  

    Ember is also the name of a character that appeared on "Spyro". Ember or Emirii is the name of a young pink dragon.
