How Is A Standard Straight Staircase Secured Top And Bottom?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

If you are building a new stair case yourself, there are several answers.  If the new stair case is up against a wall on one or both sides, it is sufficient to nail the stringers to the wall studs using 10d or 12d nails.  If only one side or neither side is against a wall you will to attach the stringers at the top from the back side of the header plate with 5/16" x 6-8" lag bolts ( 3-4 ea. Per stringer).  At the bottom end use stair case angles (metal) (Home Depot or sufficient or some hardware stores) on the inside of both stringers.  Nail or screw into the sufficient and drill the concrete and use sufficient screws.  You can also use the stair case angles instead of cutting the risers if you want to.
