What Does Sage Mean?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

A sage basically is a wise person, or a thoughtful philosopher eminent for wisdom as well as for his sound judgment. On the basis of the Grolier Encyclopaedia, when the term philosophy was initially applied by the Greeks, its meaning was purely the search for knowledge or science.

Over the period of year after the influence of eminent people like Socrates, Plato and later Aristotle, it got the added meaning of exploration for wisdom or the best life. Earlier, philosophy was primarily tangled between our individual thoughts.

The nineteenth century saw various other fields come out from philosophy at a very fast pace, most well known one being social science. A few people believed that each new stream meant a smaller sub section for philosophy.
