An aortic aneurysm is a term used to describe swelling of the aorta. The aorta is the largest artery in the human body. It is responsible for delivering blood throughout the body. An aortic aneurysm usually signifies a weakening of the wall of the aorta at the site of the swelling. This can cause the aorta to rupture at this location without treatment. A rupture will result in severe pain, major internal hemorrhage, and death if not treated quickly. There are no significant symptoms for an intact aortic aneurysm. However, as they enlarge they can show indications through abdominal and back pain. You may also experience pain or numbness in the legs. This is a very serious condition that requires immediate medical attention as soon as it is diagnosed.
