The Catskill Mountain basically is a natural area located in the New York State, positioned northwest of the New York City and southwest of Albany. In spite of its name, they are not environmental mountains but somewhat a mature divide plateau.
They are an eastward extension, and also the highest representation of the Allegheny Plateau. At times they are thought of as extension of the Appalachian Mountain into upstate New York even though they are not geographically related.
The Catskills is placed towards the west of the Hudson River and is quiet close to the boundaries of six counties which are Otsego, Delaware, Sullivan, Schoharie, Greene and Ulster. The Catskills are quiet popular in American cultural history for being the place of the so called Borscht Belt, which was basically a Jewish resort region where many upcoming Jewish stand-up comedians got their start.
