What Is The Snake With Tan Body And Black Diamonds?

Yesterday, I found a snake wedged in between my front door and the thresh hold. The snake was still a baby snake, because it was only about 11" long. The snake had a tan body with little black diamond shapes on its back. I'm not sure what kind of snake it was.So I took my knife and cut it's head off. .My question is what kind of snake was that.If anybody can answer that for me I would be very thankful

The Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake is the largest venomous snake in North America. Some reach 8 feet (2.4 meters) in length and weigh up to 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms).

This could be one of two kinds a diamond rattler or a prairie rattler in either case, if you found a baby one more than likely there is going to be a nest near by and you need to be careful you might want some one to come out and take a look around just to be on the safe side.
