There are some behavioural changes and physical signs associated with pregnancy you might see at home, but they are not conclusive.  These signs will also be seen during "false pregancy".  The best way to conclusively determine if your bitch is pregnant is to see your vet.  Your vet can use palpation from 20-30 days, a blood test or ultrasound after about 28 days and Xrays after 45 days. Xrays are the best way to determine exactly how many pups she is carrying.  Early signs are not always observed but you might see an initial decrease in appetite followed by a steady increase in appetite until she is eating almost twice her normal intake.  Vomiting may also occur in the first few weeks, a change in sleeping patterns, breast development and she may become more demanding of attention.  Later signs include weight gain, abdominal enlargement, further breast development and a clear mucoid vaginal discharge which continues from 4-5 weeks into pregnancy.  The pregnant bitch will need a high quality food, but you should not provide any mineral supplements.  Calcium supplementation that begins during pregnancy can predispose the pregnant bitch to milk fever.  Breeders often use puppy food.  She will eat more and more and later in pregnancy it might be wise to give her smaller more frequent meals.
