Should I Put Out A Press Release About My Web Site Launching?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

It's worth a try: just don't hold your breath! Web site launches, unless they're unusual or unique, are more often than not fighting to get column inches in the mainstream media these days. With web site launches happening daily, the reaction from many newsdesk is increasingly 'So what?' Only a web site launch story with a funny or unusual angle stands a chance of success in most daily or regional media outlets.

A press release about a web site launch or, for example, a site redesign or introduction of a new feature such as full e-commerce or real time stock availability, is more likely to escape the newsroom wastebasket when sent to trade journals. Target key trade journals and online magazines that cater for your industry or are themed and aimed at potential customers. You may already have contacts within these organisations if your company is listed in their business directories or you advertise with them. (Make sure, at the sime time, to update all business directory listings so they contain the company web site address.)

By all means, have a go at a press release. Just put in a bit effort to come up with a 'hook'.
