How To Make A MAN?

MAN: Basically we have three type of networks LAN (Local Area Networks) that connects computers with-in a building or one can say its territory of services is limited in terms of geographical area the very common example of LANs are the networks present in an office building, the second very common type of networks is WAN (Wide Area Networks) which gives the services to wide geographical areas the very common example of WAN is the Internet it is the form of Wide Area Network which provide connectivity to countries, continents etc. The other very important type of network is the MAN the territory of services of MAN spanning a city. And usually the main infrastructure used in it is the wireless technologies or fibre optics. Following are some of the technologies used in configuring a Metropolitan Area Network.

(1) ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode)
(2) FDDI (Fibre Distributed Data Interface)
(3) SMDS (Switched Multi-megabit Data Services)

The MAN provides connectivity to the LANs wirelessly using Microwave, Infrared, or either Radio links. The Distributed Queue Dual Bus (DQDB) is the standard for communication for the Metropolitan Area Network, Using this technology network can be spread to 30 miles long and would be able to operate at the speed of 34-155 Mega bits Per Second (Mbps).
