Sometimes we become sure about the central theme so much that we feel no more doubt in writer's efforts in describing and conveying it. The theme seems, is to convey the run of a pure culture. To convey fall of the pure culture the wither should have described the traditions, rites and customs of that culture at least with the point of view of their being true or right. There should have been a kind of grandeur in the description.
The fall of that culture should have looked like the fall of truth. But contrary to our expectations we find nothing like this in the description. Rather we find a kind satire and mockery of the old civilization we find our writer engaged in the effort of conveying to his readers the simplicity and foolishness of the characters. We find him bringing to his reader the so-called brighter aspects of the old things. We find him portraying his characters in moral inconsistency and deformity, how can the read we mourn the loss of false values and the fall of crippled characters. We find the male characters wayward and strayed. The female were quite ignorant of the truth and high moral values.
However we can say that loss of values in fact is given in terms of the loss of innocence. Knowledge is precious but we have to pay the cost of our innocence.
