Why Does My Dog Eat Cat Litter?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Eating of cat litter in dogs is not only yours dog complain. Almost all dogs eat cat litter or feces of other animals including their own or other dogs. Researchers have not found any most appropriate reasons of feces eating in dogs. Many theories have been put forward but none of them have been proved. The only reason which seems to be correct is because dogs like taste of feces.

Eating of cat feces or any other animal's feces can transmit parasites and bacteria. You can not much about this behavior of dogs. Only thing which you can do to avoid feces eating is to make it impossible for your dog to approach feces. This can be done by keeping the litter box away from your dog or use command like No when your dog starts to eat feces.

What if they are eating the poop out in the yard? Finding all the cat poop is impossible for a person but the dog's nose finds the poop quick.
