There should not be any tariffs for protection of local industry. This is because the American Industry is far advanced in terms of  technology and resources. If protection tariffs are levied on the imports, then the local manufacturers will not have any substantial competition and they will charge whatever they want from the American consumers. It is in the interest of the consumers that there should not be any tariffs on the imports. So that they can get the best deal.
